I’d just returned from a long day of working on the set of one of my bucket list projects. The day began early, with me rising at 5 AM after only 3 hours of sleep to drive three hours to drop my kids off with a friend, and it ended at 8 PM when I arrived home and fell, exhausted, into my bed. It had been a long, hot, productive day filled with great people and new faces and I couldn’t have asked for a better day of filming fun. Despite the overwhelming August heat, the three hours of DC rush hour traffic, and the little sleep I was running on, I’d thoroughly enjoyed the work. But I was beat up, and all I wanted to do was be dead to the world for six solid days.

Recently I decided to kick off my own project in response to this post on Medium. The post discussed how the author spent two weeks commenting on Facebook statuses instead of liking them. In her post, she noted another experiment where an author spent two weeks liking statuses instead of commenting on them. I found their results to be fascinating, and I half jokingly asked myself what might happen if, rather than “like” or “comment,” I only commented using emoticons. For society’s sake, I went with it. This is a day by day rundown of what happened.
It’s time to go back to school! Praise Jesus, let the angels sing and Halle-pass-me-the-wine-lujah. We are so grateful for this day, especially in my house. In my house, we just PCSd. My children finished the school year in Georgia, where they were released from school before Memorial Day. They are starting the year in Virginia, where they don’t start school until after Labor Day. Count those days. Count them! Longest. Summer. Evvvver. One hundred and eleven days of summer vacation. That’s just shy of 4 months. A THIRD of their year. And the crappy thing is, we’re in an odd time in our family, where we just moved here but we’re about to move again (t-minus three months), so half of their stuff is still packed and basically I’ve been a bad mom and letting them X-box and WII until their little hearts are content.
