Fast forward two years and some change: a week ago I found myself in a hospital bed, surrounded by doctors telling me I am way too YOUNG for this to be happening. A “lucky stroke” was what they called it.

It’s funny… just two short years ago, when I was a 37 year old in the throes of pregnancy, all I heard at every doctor’s appointment, was how OLD I was. Oh, they don’t come out and say that exactly, but at one point I warned a nurse that I could only hear the phrase “advanced maternal age” so many more times before I lost it and was on the local news.

Oh, just relax. Before anyone gets too peeved with me, please note that I did NOT say she cusses like a Marine. So, really, it could be worse. I know, I know. Lots of Navy folks might disagree with me on this one, but I have been married to a Marine for a long time. Those Devil Dogs know how to cuss… and I just don’t think anything can compare to it.
Now, as for my wonderful little girl. Emma is two and she has a speech delay. We have had her in therapy for many months, and she is improving greatly. Some folks may think I was over-reacting when I took her to the doctor at 18 months worried about her speech. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that she wasn’t communicating; she was chattering constantly… but no one could understand a single word. |
